Significant Events in Rock History: August 10th

August 10th has witnessed several noteworthy occurrences in the world of rock music. On this date in 1976, the iconic British singer-songwriter Elton John began a series of ten consecutive sold-out performances at New York’s renowned Madison Square Garden.

Jethro Tull leader Ian Anderson is born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, in 1947.

Sixteen years later, in 1992, the popular British rock band Def Leppard chose Madison Square Garden as the starting point for the North American portion of their extensive world tour, which would ultimately span 248 dates.

The year 1984 saw the release of the self-titled debut album by the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, marking the beginning of their long and influential career.

In 1999, Oasis, one of the most prominent British rock bands of the 1990s, experienced a significant change when guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthur announced his departure from the group.

More recently, in 2010, the heavy metal band Black Label Society released their eighth studio album, titled “Order of the Black.”
